PORTLAND DEBUT

White Bird Uncaged presents the Portland debut of La Compagnie Hervé Koubi with the critically acclaimed full-evening work What the Day Owes to the Night ( Ce que le jour doit à la nuit). French-Algerian choreographer Hervé Koubi has been recognized as one of Europe’s most distinctive choreographers.

The 70-minute work derives from an audition Hervé Koubi held in 2009 in Algeria, which resulted in the selection of 12 male dancers from Algeria and Burkina Faso (West Africa) who were trained in urban street dance and hip hop. The musical score ingeniously combines Johann Sebastian Bach with the Nubian composer Hamza El Din, performed by the Kronos Quartet, and Sufi music.
